National Election Watch (NEW) yesterday, Tuesday 6th October 2020 formally presented civil society’s position on the draft Decentralization Policy to the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development at the Ministry’s Youyi Building Office in Freetown.

Civil Society Consultation on the Review of the Decentralization Policy

Civil society leaders across the country met at the Buxton School Hall Freetown on Tuesday 22nd September 2020 to input into the draft Decentralization Policy by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD).

Distribution of Covid-19 Items across Region

NEW Meeting with NCRA

National Election Watch (NEW) engaged with the leadership of the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) on July 23rd 2020 at the NCRA office. The meeting focused on 4 key areas;
1. Update NCRA on the EU/NEW funded project
2. Status update on NCRA planned activities
3. Update on the Authority’s COVID-19 policy to roll out activities and
4. Map out areas of collaboration
The meeting was climaxed with an agreement to expedite the process of an MOU between NCRA and NEW

NEW Meeting with NEC

National Election Watch (NEW) held a meeting with the NEC leadership on July 22nd 2020, at their NEC conference room. The purpose of the meeting was to;
▪️ update NEC on the NEW/EU funded project
▪️ get an update on the schedule of NEC’s planned activities and
▪️ get update on the Commission’s COVID-19 strategy to roll out activities.
At the end of the meeting however, NEC officially presented their Annual Report to the NEW team.

NEW Meeting with NACOVERC

National Election Watch (NEW) met with officials of the National COVID-19 Response Center (NACOVERC) to discuss NEW’s project and Areas of intervention in the fight against COVID-19. The objective of the meeting was to know the plans in place for surveillance, education and access to information together with the monitoring mechanisms in place as churches and mosques reopen

NEW Roving National Meeting

NEW Holds Roving National Meetings and District-Level Project Debriefings on the EU Funded Project
NEW has completed the debriefing of district teams across the country on the EU-funded project titled: “Enhancing Domestic Electoral Observer Organisations and Citizens Participation in Democratic Governance Reforms Leading to the 2022 and 2023 Electoral Cycle”. The exercise, which started on Wednesday 17 June 2020, will cover all 16 districts of the country, 14 of which have already been covered, with the Western Area Rural and Western Area Urban Districts debriefings to take place on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th June 2020 respectively, to climax the activity.
The purpose of the debriefing was to inform NEW’s structure and entire membership about the details of the project, including aims, objectives, results areas, planned actions/activities and budget, as well as to review and update NEW district teams in readiness for the work ahead.
NEW also met with and had fruitful discussions with all the District Coronavirus Emergency Response Centres (DICOVERCs) on the general status of the pandemic in their respective districts including governance of the DICOVERCs, resources, logistics and citizens’ compliance with measures put out by the government and health experts.
